International Student Exchange Program (ISEP)

If you are a student enrolled in an ISEP member institution in the United States and you are considering studying a semester or two abroad, then come and spend a fun-filled term at the University of Debrecen as an ISEP exchange student!

What is ISEP?

ISEP (International Student Exchange Program) is a network of 275 post-secondary institutions in the United States and 38 other countries cooperating to provide affordable international educational experiences for a diverse student population.

ISEP promotes academic and cross-cultural learning through its worldwide collaborative network of higher education institutions. ISEP facilitates academic mobility through innovative and affordable exchange and study programs. ISEP enhances institutional infrastructures for these programs and fosters campus internationalization.

Who can participate?

ISEP programs are available for undergraduate and graduate students at member institutions who have completed at least one year of university coursework. The GPA requirement for most programs is a 2.75. Students must also demonstrate the personal maturity needed to study abroad, which is evaluated by your essays and professor recommendations. Your home university may have additional requirements.

Do I have to speak Hungarian in order to participate?

No. The University of Debrecen offers a number of English language programs, mainly in the fields of natural sciences, computer science, engineering, medical studies, music, gender studies, drama studies, British and American studies. Additional courses may be started on demand.

What can I expect as an ISEP exchange student?

As an ISEP exchange student you will pay your regular tuition fee to your home university and get housing and a monthly stipend at the University of Debrecen. You will be living together with Hungarian students, participating in the same activities and immersing in Hungarian culture. ISEP is about getting to know each other's culture and experiencing a life-style different from your own, so we will do our best to make you feel great and have an experience of a lifetime.

How do I apply?

Each ISEP member university designates a staff member to be the ISEP Coordinator. Your on-campus ISEP Coordinator will advise you and help you through the application and placement process. The ISEP Coordinator is your primary contact with ISEP and will advise you on all aspects of the program.
