Registration

For registration you will need to bring

• identity card/driving-licence issued on or after 1st January 2001, address card; for non-Hungarian citizens: passport or residence permit
• student ID for students
• guarantee form for secondary school pupils in Debrecen.

Students may register in any one of the library units: the card given to you upon registration is valid in all the other library units of the university (Agricultural Science Library, Kenézy Life Sciences Library, Library of The Conservatory, Engineering Library, Arts and Sciences Library, Library of the Faculty of Education, Social Sciences Library).
  
Daily / yearly Reading Room Cards can be purchased for the local use of documents. ID card (passport and student ID for non Hungarian citizens) is required.

 
Registration is free for librarians, employees in museums and archives and for people over 70.

Anyone with a valid University of Debrecen identification card may borrow books from any of the University's libraries. Clients must be affiliated with the University or have a local permanent address. Library cards are valid for an academic year. Renewal of the card is only possible if you do not have fines or overdue books.

If your library card is lost or stolen, please report it immediately. Library patrons are responsible for all materials checked out on their library cards. Staff will deactivate your card so that it cannot be used. You are then welcome to apply for a new card, it costs 500 HUF.

Collections

Agricultural Science Library

The collection includes the scientific literature of the disciplines studied and researched in the Faculty of Agriculture and the Faculty of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development with the literature of related fields both in traditional and electronic forms.

Arts and Sciences Library

The National and General Collection of more than 4.3 million items covers all disciplines. Since 1952 the library has enjoyed the right to receive, free of charge, a copy of every printed work published in Hungary. The library is a national library with the right and obligation of collecting and preserving these deposit copies. The library also houses an almost complete collection of books printed in Hungary before 1952.

Library of the Conservatory

The Music Collection includes more than 58 000 items covering all aspects of musical science, arts and related fields. Students and instructors can access the complete collection (scores, books, records, tapes and CDs) in one open-shelf room.

Kenézy Life Sciences Library

The Life Science collection includes more than 190 000 documents covering all disciplines studied and researched in the Medical and Health Science Centre of the University of Debrecen. The collection also covers the Hungarian and international literature needed for clinical practice and research work of the institutes and clinics of the Center.

Engineering Library

The collection includes the scientific literature of the disciplines studied and researched on the Faculty of Engineering with the literature of related fields both in traditional and electronic forms. The collection also houses the scientific periodicals of the disciplines and the industrial catalogues received as deposit copies and listed in a separate database.

Library of the Faculty of Education

The collection houses more than 50 000 documents covering primary the Hungarian science literature of pedagogy, psychology and social work, with the literature of the related fields (sociology, children's literature, medical science). At present the collection includes 139 Hungarian and 3 international periodicals and some external databases (e.g. PAD).

Social Sciences Library

The collection includes 50 000 items, two-thirds of it can be found on open shelves. The less used part of the collection (about 15 000 documents) is housed in closed stacks. More than 500 periodicals are housed in the library, most of them on open shelves on the first floor. About 5-6 000 items are added to the collection each year, partly by acquiring new documents and partly by continuously receiving and processing the documents of the National and General Collection belonging to the Social Sciences Collection (not in the online catalogue yet).
The reference collection of the library is continuously expanding.

Circulation

Replacement of lost library card costs 500 HUF.
Loan periods and book renewals may differ in the libraries.
Overdue fines: 40 HUF/day/item + postage cost of overdue notice(s).

Reservation: when the requested item is returned to the library, an item available notice will be sent inviting you to pick it up within a week. The reservation fee is 100 HUF/title.

Renewals must be done on or before the expiration date in person, by phone or e-mail. Renewals are usually granted, unless the item has been recalled or is needed for reserves.
