Research University - R&D
UD is one of the five Hungarian universities that have been awarded the prestigious ’research university’ title by the Ministry of Education.
With the accompanying HUF 3 billion (EUR 11,3 million) subsidy UD can start its new 'research university programme.' Within the framework of the programme five disciplines, namely
- molecular science, including pharmacy;
- physical, computational and material sciences;
- molecular medicine;
- health and environmental science;
- language technology and bioethics
have been selected as priority areas of basic research. Altogether 12 academic research groups, 21 doctoral schools and 7 innovative research teams are working in the aforementioned areas at UD. The socio-economic benefits are also enormous: strong basic research is likely to enhance the presence of pharmaceutical, chemical, health industry and biotechnology in the region.
The sixth subprogramme is responsible for knowledge and technology transfer and the efficient utilization of the infrastructure created in the project.
The newly set up Research University Coordination Council will be in charge of the allocation of sources with the help of international advisors. The Council, headed by Prof. László Fésüs, supervises the long-term implementation of the reserach university programme. Members of the Council, namely Ferenc Joó (molecular science), Zoltán Trócsányi (physical, computational and material sciences), László Nagy (molecular medicine), Pál Gergely (health and environmental science), and András Kertész (language technology and bioethics), are all researchers of international standing and members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
