Bolyai Fund for Young Researchers

2012/03/30, Fri - 11:32

For the 15th time by 2012, the Hungarian Academy of Science has announced the opening of the application period for the Bolyai Research Fund, which aims to provide financial help for talented researchers.

Funds are available upon delivering a written research assignment/thesis, another research project equivalent in value or a detailed academic research targeted at earning the prestigious title of ‘Professor of the Academy’ for scholars under the age of 45 years.

The fund aims to provide support between the time period of graduation and employment, for young academics who have dedicated their lives to research. For those whose  performance proves to be the most promising, the “Lendület” Programme would provide financial assistance, by setting up a research group and ensuring the project is carried out accordingly to international standards. The Programme was an initiative  by József Pálinkás – President of the Academy – and is an outstanding example of the appreciation of individual talent  producing exceptional academic achievements.

The Bolyai Research Fund is valid for one, two or three years. Hungarian citizens who have already obtained a PhD degree or other degree of equal value in higher education and have not yet reached the age of 45 by 20th March are eligible to apply.

Applicants are supposed to conduct academic research in a Hungarian institution of higher education, an academic research centre, or other research facilities that have already confirmed the validity of their work. Non-Hungarian academics  are also eligible to apply for funding if their research is targeted at Hungary or Hungarian issues. The application can be submitted in English in exceptional cases.
