Library development with EU support
The National and University Library of the University of Debrecen will develop its services and infrastructure with the 350 million forint support from the European Union.
Winning this tender will significantly change the operation of the second biggest national library of the country and will make 24 hours online library and enlarging the digital data basis possible. This is a great advancement since only 20% of the book collection can be reached electronically. The options of the disabled will be improved , and cooperating with other institutions will result in the developement of high school education . The investment will be final in March 2011.
The opening ceremony of the tender was held on the 28 th of January, and the guests were welcomed by Márta Virágos general director of the University and National Library and László Fésüs rector of the university. The presentations were held by Miklós Maróth vice president of the Hungarian Academy of Science, Judit Skaliczki vice director of the Library of the Cultural and Educational Ministry, and Katalin Bánkeszi director of the Electronic Documents Centre of the National Széchenyi Library. It is rare that an institution wins both TÁMOP- and TIOP- resources as the National and University Library of the University of Debrecen did.
