Debrecen’s help to Haiti
The delegation of the University of Debrecen’s Special Doctor and Rescuer Team(DEKOM) arrived back in Debrecen. In one week, the five doctors and one nurse treated almost 700 patients.
The Richter magnitude 7 earthquake happened on the 12th January in the haitian capital, Port-au-Prince and more than 100 thousand people died in the tragedy. The DEKOM started to work in a region where there had been no health care earlier. Part of the rescuer worked in a hospital operated by the spanish catastrophy team, they proceeded surgeries and organized the transportation of the injured people. Although the country is in a big need for help, the doctors were not safe. The survivors are starving, there is not enough medicine and the situation is chaotic.
DEKOM currently tries to raise money with the help of the Donation Line, so they can reach other regions which suffered catastrophy. They would also like to continue treating the people living at the Hungarian world of farms.
