Environmentally relevant redox reactions: kinetics and mechanism

Academic head of project management: Fábián István

  • Title of project: Környezeti kémiai jelentőségű redoxireakciók: kinetika és mechanizmus
  • Type of grant: OTKA-NK
  • Description: Our research group has developed broad expertise in exploring the mechanisms of complex redox reactions in the last two decades. Our earlier results provide a solid basis for identifying the most important problems to be addressed within the frame of this project. In general, we wish to study the kinetics and mechanisms of the reactions of strong oxidants (oxyhalogen species, halogen-amines, hydrogen peroxide, oxone, ozone etc.) with various inorganic and organic substrates. The effects of catalysts and light will also be studied. These reactions exhibit complex kinetic patterns, and exploring the details requires simultaneous application of various experimental techniques, adapting or developing new analytical protocols and the use of sophisticated evaluation methods. Our main goal is to establish appropriate kinetic models for the interpretation of the observations and use these models for developing comprehensive reaction mechanisms.
